Hi, I think this is one of the best and most challenging places ever. I climbed up this mountain because I was looking for a summit higher than Pikes Peak, and I found it! When I was there, there was…Nicolas R的完整评论

Honestly great trail, with a long day of hiking. We thought were making good time once we got out of the tree line, but boy were we wrong. Definitely bring water, and then more water, plenty of snack…dunc_webb的完整评论

Mount Elbert is the tallest peak in Colorado and the second highest in the continental US. The Northeast Ridge trail is a very manageable to get to the top of the Rockies - literally. The total round…JSTrip_77的完整评论

Hi! I’d ask around locally about trail conditions and decide closer to the date. We had planned to hike the North Route, but the night before learned it was still snow packed & slushy and required lots of post-holing (in July) so we hiked the South route. We had never hiked a 14er before & it was definitely an awesome experience. Beautiful views from the top & well worth the slog through the scree for the last mile or so.

We are planning to hike up Mt. Elbert next weekend and are undecided about which trail to take. We have hiked in a lot of places, but never at this elevation and never a 14er; this will be our first. We are in fairly good shape and have strong determination. Which trail would you suggest. By the way, we are from the Louisiana/ Mississippi area. Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL suggestions.

Mt. Elbert was my first 14er, highest before that was Mt. Mitchell at 6784, so it was a big jump. We hiked up from the northeast ridge, 9 miles round trip, 4700 feet elevation gain. Started at around 6, summit before 10 and back down by 1230, just before storms rolled in. Its steep, but all hiking, no technical climbing and the trailhead is accessible in 2WD rental car. Do start early to avoid afternoon storms. Tripadvisor won't allow links, but google Mt. Elbert northeast ridge to find more description, directions, etc.

Not that I know of. Perhaps a taxi from Leadville? Or call their chamber of commerce and see if anyone could be hired to give a ride?

Start your hike before dawn. You want to get to the top of the mountain by noon.
