Nissan has officially ceased accepting orders for the GT-R in Japan, marking the end of an 18-year production run for the iconic sports car. This decision concludes the availability of the R35-generation GT-R around the globe.

For now, Nissan has not announced a direct successor to the R35, and no next-generation GT-R is waiting in the wings. The company has previously suggested that any future GT-R will likely incorporate some level of electrification, though whether that means a hybrid powertrain or a fully electric setup remains unclear.

And with that, Nissan has officially closed the chapter on its long-running R35 GT-R. It’s an end of an era, indeed, and it’ll be a while before we see a successor.

The R35 GT-R was introduced in 2007. In its 18 years of existence, its design hasn't changed much. However, it has undergone several performance upgrades, ranging from engine tweaks to aerodynamic modifications.

The R35-generation Nissan GT-R bowed out of the U.S. market after the 2024 model year, but production will continue for Japan and a handful of other markets until a final cutoff around July of this year. This will mark an 18-year production run —twice as long as the typical generational lifecycle for most vehicles.

After just over 17 years in production, the Nissan GT-R is bowing out with twin-turbo petrol power – but an electric rebirth seems likely.

After nearly two decades, the Nissan GT-R will finally go out of production in 2025. Nissan has closed order books for the GT-R in Japan, stating, “We have received many orders for the Nissan GT-R, and we have now finished accepting orders for the planned production quantity.
