As with the December killing of Robert L. Brooks, the office's civil division has defended officers under investigation

Just over a week after six corrections officers were indicted for the death of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility, another inmate has died at the prison across the street at Mid-State Correctional Facility.

The New York Attorney General’s Office is recusing itself from the investigation into the death of Messiah Nantwi, citing conflict of interest.
