Kagmari Conference was a historic council meeting of Awami League that called for autonomy for East Pakistan and created the path for the Independence of Bangladesh. [1][2][3] The Awami League held a cultural conference organized by Yar Mohammad Khan from 6–10 February 1957 in Kagmari, Tangail District, East Pakistan.

The Awami League party flag is a green field with four five-rayed red star at its centre, and a vertical red stripe at the hoist side. The flag also bears some resemblance to the flag of Pakistan, showing the ex-Pakistani origin of the Awami League. The four stars on the Flag represent the four fundamental principles of the party.

Today is 23rd June, Awami League's 75th founding anniversary. The name Awami League stands for an ideology and sentiment for the masses in the political history of the subcontinent. Awami League has been leading the way to establish interreligious harmony, humanity and human rights in Bangladesh since the party's inception.

Awami League was revived in a meeting held at Bangabandhu's residence on January 25, 1964. In this meeting, the proposal of a 'Parliamentary Government by a vote of adult citizens' and realising 'Political Rights' was accepted.
