The carbon pencil is the perfect combination of charcoal and graphite. The name carbon, for a pencil, is misleading to me since I know natural graphite is pure carbon. Should graphite pencils not just be called carbon pencils then? I wanted to read a little farther into it and found a page discussing different pencil compositions.

2010年5月10日 · [*]General’s Carbon Sketch Pencil – These seem kind of rare. They have a very soft, dry (almost powdery) consistency and seem a little bit dusty. They blend almost as well as vine/willow charcoal and (depending on the amount of pressure you used when marking) erase easily. Of the common carbon pencils available, this is my personal favorite.

@Matt Clarification on Carbon pencils. The point of the question is really about making a very black mark, as does charcoal, but with a thinner more controlled line, as does a charcoal pencil. Thus, the carbon pencil does the trick. It is part charcoal and part graphite. The charcoal is very finely ground so is not gritty like most charcoal ...

2012年5月26日 · Carbon is burnt oil ( I think I am agreeing with katwalk!) – Charcoal pencils are burnt wood. Graphite pencils are.. well – graphite ( often mixed with clay and water and wax – and carbon for the very soft/dark pencils). Generals I think wants to capitalize on the carbon market it has been missing out on!

2014年12月19日 · The 8815/1 went on smoother and tighter (less white of paper showing through) at equal pressure. The 9xxB has a mild carbon feel to it and more drag (less glide) than the 8815/1. But I think most looking for darkest pencil that is not all carbon or charcoal would be happy with either one.

2010年2月26日 · Almost draw like a pencil but many times the darkness. I wish Wolff Carbon comes out with an HB like that. 3B lays down color really fast. At the bottom, I used one pencil from each group. These pencils work together well, even the Wolff’s Carbon pencil. The carbon pencil just doesn’t like graphite. I did also the test on white pencil.

2012年2月27日 · Carbon won’t stick over the slick graphite, Bluefish. And I’ve got some pretty dark graphite pencils Luicre; the darkest I could find is a generals woodless in 8b. It’s darker than other 8b’s I’ve used, though I know there are some 9b’s out there.

2011年2月3日 · The Softest pencil you can get gives the easiest carbon . Store bought is fine . I bought a Fab, Faber Castell soft pencil with no wood . Wow, the easy life !:wink2: Nola’s Bottle Carbon sounds useful , I have never tried that . At any rate, it is better then anything I Ever bought . I hate fighting the paper . I hope it will work for you too .
