2008年3月24日 · I am building a new home in Houston, Texas, and the standard wall insluation is R-13 unfaced batts in 2x4 walls and R-19 on exterior 2x6 walls. The standard insulation in the attic (two story home) is R-30. I am going to upgrade to R-38 blown in for the attic, and have been given a quote for Ownes Pro-Pink blown in for the exterior walls.

2019年3月12日 · As I recall; a vapor barrier is best placed on the interior of the structure's outside walls. I assume this is to avoid the condensing of moisture inside the walls. Paint and the various sidings are somewhat porous and so allow moisture to escape outwards and the interior vapor barrier restricts the movement of moisture into the wall.

2007年11月5日 · Duct liner isn't sold as insulation but as acoustic liner. While it has some insulation value it's not much. I thought I remember r-4 per inch but with air moving over it's surface it will drop r value. And I know there is a whole lot of ductwork on roofs with just liner inside but it's performance as an insulation isn't all that high.

2008年10月22日 · I opened the wall cavity where they needed to go and then prior to when I set the duct work in place I sealed the duct work set in place and then used spray foam around the duct work and then re-sheeted the cavity using 1/2" insulation bd and then 1/2" insulation bd over the entire house and re-sided the house.

2017年3月7日 · not sure how hot a pvc 2" sch 40 pipe can get for a furnace. and what highest temp of insulation i need to get. ===== was thinking of using fiberglass pipe wrap insulation with foil backing, and then some foil tape over top of that. just to hold the insulation in place, and to deal with the long sweeping 90's, and the larger end of fittings.

2014年1月28日 · You cannot pack insulation in, on or tightly around a masonry fireplace like that. Seal and insulate the outside wall where it abuts the chimney. You are allowed to have sheathing touch the chimney but not framing and you cannot pack the space with insulation. . Properly built, there is no need for insulation over the header.

2013年11月19日 · On an exterior chase, the outer three walls typically should be weatherized. This includes air sealing such as foam or caulk then insulation then rigid sheathing on the interior of the chase. This sheathing serves to restrain the insulation in place so it can work but also so it cannot fall against the hot chimney or fireplace and cause a fire.

2007年6月22日 · I measured the West wall which is gettin sun and the North wall which is in the shade in the same corner of a room at the same height and the West wall was 4* hotter. At the moment, this wall gets sun from about 1pm to 8pm. I think that'll be the first candidate for the Air Krete. Right now it's 85*F upstairs and 77*F downstairs and 82*F outside.

2008年6月20日 · I have decided to change out the flex duct to a larger 8" flex duct with R-8.0 insulation and add a 90 degree elbow at the register to keep it from crimping. So of the ducts are crimped because they have no overhead support. Earlier in the year I decked 3/4 of the attic after adding extra insulation so working in the attic isn't that bad.
