TL;DR - Evil Superman characters are fine, evil Clark Kent is bad. The idea of an evil character with Superman-like powers isn’t necessarily bad, it just depends on the execution (Homelander from The Boys TV show is an interesting character with excellent acting & writing). My gripe, however, is when I see bad Clark Kent.

2021年10月8日 · For awhile now we’ve gotten games, movies, and tv shows about an evil Superman or Superman like character. I guess I’m just tired of it, give me a Christopher Reeves Superman kind of movie or show. He’s more than a boring boyscout and whatever the hell Snyder did with him. I want the hopeful, friendly, inspiring Superman.

2020年1月12日 · Not evil though YMMV, and some would argue not of character (I vehemently disagree with that viewpoint), but definitely out there in who Superman is, is John Byrne's "The Supergirl Saga" (Superman Vol 2 #21, Adventures of Superman Vol 1 #444, Superman Vol 2 #22). An Evil Superman can be a hero turned bad (irredeemable), a broken hero (Injustice), a psychopath pretending to be a hero (The Boys), a villain on the way to make amends (Invincible, Incorruptible) or a literal "evil superior man" that is never anything close to a hero in action or image ("brightburn").

Using this "evil superman" framework from a completely different perspective was Superman Red Son, saying "what if Kal-El landed in the soviet union instead of Kansas. Framing Superman's moral ethics in a communist power structure was a fantastic way to reimagine the character.

Same here. Evil Superman trope is a low-hanging fruit. Honestly, Homelander and Omni-Man did it well because of the superb acting (or voice acting). But it's seriously tiring to see evil superman over and over again. I wish they'd focus more on Superman getting conflicted on his own personal interests vs. saving the world.

It meshes with the "ideal hero makes no mistakes, kills no one they don't intend to", regardless of audience attitudes on killings not making someone morally irredeemable. Killing breaks from the perfection that Superman is supposed to be able to achieve, and lends itself as sufficient for 'evil Superman' as concept and entity due to identity loss.

Whereas I do think he was a pretty good "Dark" (not evil!) Superman, I think his biggest crime was coming out during the whole craze of evil supermans. Forever evil, Metal, Injustice. (Also NON DC stories like Invincible and the Boys had it's Evil superman archetype)
