This map, known as the “Virginia Pars” map, was created by John White, the governor of the Roanoke Colony (also known as the Lost Colony) in the late 16th century. The map was intended to represent parts of the East Coast, including what is now North Carolina, and it was drawn between 1585 and 1586.
